Tuesday, 21st December 2010: It was destination “North Pole” in Sligo for children of Our Lady’s Hospital for sick Children, Crumlin recently, as Aer Arann took to the skies for a very exciting visit to see Santa!
The children arrived at Dublin Airport along with their parents and staff from the hospital to be greeted by a crew of Santa’s helpers, including “Mrs. Claus”, who looked after the guests on the dedicated flight to Santa’s grotto in Sligo.
On the flight the children were treated to entertainment by Santa’s helpers including enthusiastic carol singing by the cabin crew. Once the plane touched down, the children were shown into Santa’s grotto for some festive treats where they eagerly waited to meet the man in red!
Shortly afterwards, Santa Claus himself arrived in style by touching down in an impressive red Coast Guard helicopter, much to the amazement of the children present.
It was fun and games for all, as each child had a chance to meet with Santa and tell him what they wanted for Christmas and to have their photographs taken.
After several hours of Christmas fun including face-painting and more, the children boarded their Aer Arann flight back to Dublin, along with Santa who accompanied them on the flight home. Each child returned with a gift from Santa.
This was the ninth annual Christmas flight arranged by Aer Arann for the Children of our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin with this year proving extremely successful thanks to the commitment of Aer Arann volunteers, hospital staff and the staff at Sligo Airport.
